| The Akita, Akita Inu or Akita Ken originated in Japan and is considered the national dog of Japan and a natural monument. They are the
largest of the Japanese Spitz-type breeds, muscular with webbed paws which allow them to be very strong swimmers. Standing between twenty-five and twenty-eight inches in height, they are a large breed but not giant. They are suited to experienced owners who can give them plenty of time, attention and firm obediance training. They are a pack-oriented breed and are stressed by long periods alone, either indoors or out. They do best in a house with a fenced garden or yard and are not suited to apartment living. |
